“Why I made Reframe”
Hi, my name is Bridget, and I’m the founder of Reframe. First off, welcome, and thank you for coming. A lot of things happened to lead up to the creation of this magazine, and I wanted to share my story.
I’m an architecture and design journalist and was a reporter at Dezeen, where I learned there’s an incredible range of designs being made right now that seek to be lighter on the earth, but there is no place dedicated to them.
I made Reframe to fill a gap and build a corner of the internet dedicated to design, architecture and the environment. It combines environmental and climate news with architecture and design.
I was first introduced to sustainability in 2014 when I worked at Provenance in London with Jessi Baker on supply chain transparency. Our work was modelled on the mindset, “You live in the world you buy into,” and it has stuck with me ever since. The real tipping point for me, though, came after watching David Attenborough’s A Life on Our Planet during the pandemic last year. I was so upset and knew that more work needed to be done to promote environmentally friendly designs and solutions. But it was after I watched Brave Blue World that my fear and anger turned into optimism and commitment.
Reframe is a place to learn about the people behind advancements in sustainable design and architecture and get inspired. I hope Reframe becomes a resource for community-building and knowledge-sharing. I also hope it helps to educate people who don’t care about climate change that they should.
